USGS says the red warning is for increased ash emission from the volcano summit.
The Geological survey are reporting that NWS radar and pilot reports shows that the top of the ash cloud is 10,000-12,000 feet above sea level.
Ash fall and vog is being reported in Pahala.
The red warning means an eruption is imminent or suspected with hazardous activity.
Nearly 2,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and are now waiting to hear when they can return home.
Lava has surged into residential areas, decimating dozens of structures.
A total of 20 fissures have now opened, spewing lava, ash and toxic gases into the atmosphere, threatening homes and livelihoods.
